At Leaf It Alone one of the services we offer is Plug aerating! Aerating is a great way to bring life back into your lawn and give it the boost it needs! It actually is even a nicer way to dethatch your lawn as it's less stressful to the lawn. Dethatchers are typically very rough and damage the lawn.
What is Aerating?
Well, there are different types of aerators being the spike, slice, and plug/core. Spike aerators do the job but plug aerators are preferred and recommended by lawn care professionals. The spike uses spikes and just punctures the ground but doesn't remove any dirt. Slice aerator puts slices in the soil, again without removing any soil. The plug/core style aerator will punch into the soil and remove a plug or core of soil and dump it on top of the lawn.
The plug-style aerator is preferred as it actually pulls up soil leaving a hole that allows enough air and water to penetrate into the ground. It also won't seal back up as quickly as the other 2 styles will. It also breaks up the heavily compacted soil that just happens over time from any lawnmowers, people, animals constantly walking on will compact the soil and make it harder for it to breath and receive the water/nutrients it needs to thrive as a healthy lawn.
The times aerating is done is during the spring and fall months when the ground is damp, soft, and easy to punch through with the tines on the aerators.

Make sure to reach out before the end of the season as we come closer to the winter months the leaves look beautiful as they change and fall off the trees, However, the ground starts getting tougher to penetrate the lower the temperature goes.
With aerating we want the ground to stay damp and soft for best results as it's easier for the ground to be punctured and seed to take! We have a FALL SPECIAL going on and other package deals for aerating/seeding/fertilizing on your property to have a headstart for this next spring season!
