The week of August 22nd - 28th is hot and humid! The scorching sun and air that feels hard to breathe in, makes for a rough time with plants.
When the weather is this hot for this long it is important to take steps to minimize damage to the lawn and plants! This means things like watering, but not too much! You will want to water in the evening once it's cooled off. Water deep but do not overwater as lawns like to be a bit more on the dry side as it helps with oxygen flow and affects other organisms in the soil. Don't water every day either, in a drought maybe every 2nd or 3rd day.
When mowing during this time try not to cut the lawn too short and don't bag any clippings as this provides nutrients back into the lawn.
Definitely avoid using any type of fertilizer during this time as it will certainly kill the lawn even faster. Fertilizer promotes lawn growth with will cause the lawn to use up more energy and at a faster rate which it already has very little of.
Lastly, during this time, make sure that the little animals have some food and water to keep them going as they might not be able to escape the harsh heat with air conditioning. Just like Ollie here below, probably needs a haircut to keep him cooler!
