Nematodes

What are they?

Nematodes are naturally occurring worms in the soil that are found all around the globe. Nematodes hunt and feed on insects and pests found in the soil. They kill pests by injecting them with a bacteria that eats away at their insides and lays more nematode eggs. The pests die within 2 days of being infected.

How do I use them?

Nematodes come in a powder that contains around 10 million nematodes that can cover up to 3000 sq ft. This can easily be mixed with water and sprayed on problem areas on your lawn. Be careful not to let the nematodes expire as they are living organisms and won't have an effect once they're dead.

it is best to spray in the early morning or late evening once the weather is cooler. Make sure to give them a light spray of water to help penetrate the ground easier but not too much as it can wash the nematodes away.

There are two periods when nematodes can target grubs: in the spring when soil temperatures are above 10°C (often early May to early June) and again in the fall before the soil gets too cold (mid-late September to mid-October). The best time is in the fall when the grubs are smaller but the most common time is in the spring. The best practice is to apply during both to get the best coverage and protection!
