Maintain your tools!
Whether it's your lawnmower, weed whacker, or leaf blower your tools all need to be maintained, (yes even if it's electric).
From changing blades, spark plugs, making sure that if it takes oil, that's drained and refreshed.
Clear debris from underneath the mower. Air filters need to be replaced as well.
The best time to do this maintenance is in the early spring right before the season really starts, but as the months go on smaller maintenance will need to be applied.
DON'T CUT TOO MUCH!
Don't cut your lawn too short! It's beneficial to your lawn to keep a current height of 2.5 to 3 inches. The longer grass shades the soil and keeps moisture in it encourages deeper lawn root depth and in the hotter months, less mowing will need to be done as the lawn doesn't grow as fast.
WATER, WATER, WATER!
This will depend on the weather as well but watering the lawn once a week with a good soaking is beneficial to your lawn. Water in the early morning as it's not as hot, watering in the mid-day or afternoon isn't good as most will evaporate. Don't water at night as this promoted fungal diseases.
SEEDING & FERTILIZING
Don't sweat seeding and fertilizing so much in the dead of summer as the grass seed will take significantly more water to seed and if not maintained then much of the grass seed will be short-lived. Best to seed in early spring and fall times when the weather is cooler and slightly damp.
