What plant fits your home?

When trying to decide on what plant fits your home, you first need to figure out where you would like the plant(s) to go.

Do you want it on a table, in the corner of the living room, near your computer? These are all things you need to figure out before picking out a plant, as it will determine what type of plants you can have.

SPACE, plants need space and not to be squeezed in between other things as this will block airflow and now allow the plant to breath.

With good air circulation, your plant can better control temperature and replenish CO2 better. Airflow also reduces humidity and lowers the presence of certain diseases.

HUMIDITY

Be sure to check if the plant you are looking at needs more humidity. This is also another issue in the home as there is typically lower humidity in our homes due to heating and a/c control.

Keep plants away from radiators as it can dry them out. If you have a tropical plant you will probably need to also mist them to ensure they maintain proper moisture levels.

LIGHT

Will the spot you have chosen receive much light?

Is the plant you have chosen a bright-light plant, medium-light or low-light? These plants all have different needs to thrive in the environment.

BRIGHT-LIGHT PLANTS - Need direct strong sunlight for most of the day.

MEDIUM-LIGHT PLANTS - Best plants for indirect sunlight, partial or filtered.

LOW-LIGHT PLANTS - Most low maintenance plants requiring only minimal levels of natural light.

PETS

Some plants can be toxic to animals. So if you have any pets at home be sure to check and make sure it isn't a toxic plant to your furr babies.

TEMPERATURE

When it comes to temperature here is what you should keep in mind. Air conditioning will make soil dry out more slowly and the opposite is true, central heat will dry out the plant and soil much faster.

It's all really simple things to remember but it's also the things we forget to do the most.

If you have a plant that doesn't get much sunlight, its always best practice to bring it out to a window or on the front porch for the plant to reset itself!
